Eileen Kreth, 99, of Mt. Vernon, SD, died Friday, February 23, 2024, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, April 1, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Dimock, SD. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, March 31, from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Eileen Renee (Sigmund) Kreth was born August 1st, 1924, south of Mt. Vernon to William and Selma (Sperlich) Sigmund. She attended the Baker #10 school at Metzgerville. On December 2nd 1945, she married Bernard Kreth at the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Stickney. She farmed with Bernard south of Mt. Vernon, and together they were known for raising Registered Herford Cattle. Eileen was also known for raising a large garden, baking for her family and sewing for her children. Her family was a beneficiary of many quilts. She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church rural Dimock where she was involved in the Women’s group and taught Sunday School. 

She is survived by her children, Darwin Kreth and wife Pat of Mitchell, Renae Eidenshink and husband Jeff of Sioux Falls, Pat Deinert and husband Ron of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren: Barclay (Kate) Kreth, Megan (Luke) Kreth Schryvers, Kara (Travis) Kreth Zomer, Brittany (Clay) Kreth Anderson, Kristen (Wade) Wieczorek Hutchinson, Matthew (Lauren) Wieczorek, Michael (Courtney) Deinert, Kevin (Brianna) Deinert, and Timothy (Amy) Deinert; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marlene Koch of Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Edwin Sigmund and wife Lydia; brother-in-law, Delmer Koch; one great-granddaughter; son-in-law, Jerry Wieczorek; brothers-in-law, Ernest and LuVern Kreth, John, Otto, and Ewald Burmeister; sisters-in-law, Gladys Ziebart, Valindy Melhaff, Alma Kluth, Alvina Gerlach, and Erna Scheetz.
