Milo Gene Hansen entered this world on September 27, 1936 to Glen and Marguerite (Poppe) Hansen. He was born on the family homestead in Esmond, SD where the family still owns that plot of land. He moved to Mitchell in 1942 where he grew up and attended the Mitchell Schools.

He joined the United States Marine Corps in November of 1955. He went overseas to the South Pacific, where he was stationed in Okinawa, Then Tokyo Japan for 16 months. Milo always said that one of his most memorable moments was landing on Iwo Jima, where 5 Marines and one Corpsman raised the flag on Mt. Suribachi. In 1957, Milo came back to the United States and was stationed at Pt. Mugu Missle Base in California.

In November of 1958, he met Karen Bauer, the love of his life. The two married on December 21, 1960. Milo and Karen made their home in Mitchell, SD and have lived in the same house for the past 56 years making an abundance of cherished memories with family and friends. Some of Milo's favorite times were holiday and birthday celebrations because their house was "home base" for all family gatherings and everyone was always welcome.

He retired from the State Highway Department in 1992, where he was a heavy equipment operator. His 26 years of retirement included spending time in the garage with his grandchildren working on fun projects (or as he would call it "monkeying around"), picking them up from school, traveling with his wife, playing cards with family, fishing and hunting, driving limos, and operating heavy equipment for his friend.

He was very proud to serve his country as a Marine soldier and in 2013 attended the Pt. Mugu Marines Club's 50 year reunion in Washington DC with his family.

Milo had a heart filled with goodness and truly loved the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He was a very strong and courageous man. He truly earned his "wings" and will forever be our guardian angel. Although he will be truly missed by many, there is comfort in knowing that Milo has been happily reunited with his daughter, Kam and other loved ones in heaven.

Milo was a member of the Holy Family Church, the American Legion, and at different times, the Moose Lodge and the James Valley Elks.

Milo is survived by his caring wife of nearly 58 years, Karen Hansen. He was the beloved father of Brenda (Bryan) Moore, Lynda (Duane) Robideau, and Milo (Lorie) Hansen. He was the loving grandfather of Seth (Tina) Hauge, Max (Katrina) Hauge, Marie (Mike) Mickelson, Lee Hauge, Nicole Robideau and Dustin Rhoades, Wayne Robideau, Dylan Hansen, Aly Hansen, and Riley Hansen. He also adored his eight great-grandchildren, Jonas, Stella, Caleb, Kynley, Hunter, Connor, Ellie, and Mason. Milo also had many nieces, nephews, and cousins that had a special place in his heart.

Milo is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kamra Maria Ann Hansen; a great-grandson, Hadley; two brothers, Glen (Betty) Hansen and LeRoy (Beverly) Hansen; a sister Vernetta (Leo) Brech; three half-brothers, Donald Raker, Herbert Raker, and Robert Raker; and 4 half-sisters, Ruth, Ethel, Verna, and Edith.
