Dolores Stach, 91, Mitchell formerly of Letcher, SD died Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Saturday, May 25 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in the Butler Cemetery at Letcher. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Friday with a scripture service at 7:00 pm at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Dolores Anne Stach was born November 4, 1927, to Allen and Elizabeth (Lutzweiler) Holeton in Philadelphia PA. She graduated from Ben-Salem High School in 1945, then earned her teaching degree in English in 1949 from Westchester State Teachers College. Her first teaching job brought her to Letcher SD where she met and married Steve P. Stach on December 29, 1949. To this union were born eight children. Dolores and Steve owned and operated the Stach Grocery Store in Letcher until retiring in 1988.
Dolores was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church and Altar Society in Letcher and later in life was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mitchell. She was a charter and lifelong member of the Letcher American Legion Auxiliary and was active in the Letcher Study Club. She was an avid reader, enjoyed ice skating, Jersey Shore, dancing, baking, and cooking, at which she was very good at.
Survivors include her children: Elizabeth (Bob) Werkmeister of Sioux City IA, Elaine (Greg) Almond of Harvard NE, Miriam (Dave) Mead of Hartford SD, Stephen Stach of Letcher SD, and Theresa (Loren) Wakeman of Hawarden IA; nine grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, her sister, Stephanie Wagner of Levittown PA, cousins, Andrea (Dave) Ainsworth of Bridgeton NJ, Jim (Elaine) Jackson II of Medford NJ, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Steve of 56 years, infant son Anthony, son Stuart, daughter Allwyn, her parents, her uncle Gus Lutzweiler, aunt Alma (Jim) Jackson, and brother-in-law Earl Wagner.
