Obituary

Carl “Jim” Metz, 81, of Mitchell died Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be at Serviceman’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel with a prayer services at 6:30 PM.

Carl James Metz was born March 15, 1938 on the family farm near Alexandria, SD to Clarence and Nina (Benson) Metz. He attended grade school at Wayne #4 and received his GED while he served four years in the US Air Force. In 1964 he married Peggy Tischler. Jim owned his own trucking company and did mechanic work for many years. He was former owner of the Log Cabin Service. In 1989 he married Janet Brink. He was a member of the Outkasts Car Club, enjoyed doing car restoration and raising Dachshunds.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, two children: Tammy Metz and Tony (Kathy) Metz, two grandchildren: Nikole McCarty, Jayden Metz and two great grandchildren: Robert and Tillie McCarty, one brother, John (Joyce) Metz, Mitchell; five sisters: Mary Borszich of Grand Junction, CO, Christina Gardner of Portland, OR, Margaret “Peggy” Johnson, Mitchell, Carolyn Stevenson, Mitchell, and Kitty (Richard) Lund of Portland, OR, two sisters-in-law: Louise Metz, Pat (Fred) Kobold, brother-in-law, Don Tischler and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence “Ed”, Francis “Frank”, Bernard “Barney” and one sister, Helen “Dolly”.
