Obituary

Michael Kieffer, 70, of White Lake, SD died Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, July 26, 2019, at St. Peters Catholic Church in White Lake.  Burial will be in St. Peters Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at the Church with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.

He was born July 2, 1949, in Mitchell, SD, to Lawrence and Clara (Vogel) Kieffer. He grew up on a farm south of White Lake where he would eventually live and raise his own family. He graduated from White Lake High School in 1967. Mike attended Southern State College in Springfield, SD, and Iowa State University’s agriculture program. He went on to attend auctioneering school in Mason City, IA. After working on a farm in Iowa for several years, he then worked at the sale barns in Huron, Highmore, Miller, and Wessington Springs for many years.

Mike married Nancy Palmer on August 1973. 

Mike married Tina Herzog on February 4, 1989. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Mike started his own trucking business in 2002. His purple and yellow trucks were seen in many cattle yards, sale barns, and construction sites. Mike had a passion for meeting new people. He was known to strike up a conversation anywhere and with anyone. Mike loved raising livestock, especially baby calves. Most recently, Mike enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter, Savanna, and his title of “Grandpa”.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Tina; daughter Mollie (Leo) Huber of Freeman, SD; sons Ross (Brooklynn), and Todd, both of White Lake; granddaughter Savanna Kieffer; siblings Darlene (Don) Beckman of White Lake, Joyce Henderson of McFarland, KS, Larry (Rose) Kieffer of Howard, SD, Delores (Dick) Mathey, Richard (Diana) Kieffer, and John (Kris) Kieffer, all of White Lake; and brother-in-law Mark Herzog of Melbourne, IA. 

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; Tina’s parents, Ivan and Harriet Herzog; brothers-in-law John Henderson and Bill Herzog; and sisters-in-law Sandy Herzog and Pat Herzog.

My condolences to Todd and Ross. It was my pleasure to have met Mike while working at Loiseau Construction. Mr.Kieffer always had an positive word to say to me each day. He will be missed.
