Judy Chivington

September 30, 1946 - July 8, 2021

Judy Chivington, 74, of Mitchell, SD, died Thursday, July 8, 2021 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday, July 13, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Judy Chivington was born December 30, 1946, to James B. and Alva E. (Dethlefson) Bullis in Mitchell, SD. She attended Notre Dame Catholic school.

Judy married Donald E. Chivington of Farmer, SD on September 28, 1962. Together they lived in Letcher, Farmer, and Omaha while Donnie attended Barber College. Later they moved to the Fulton and Alexandria area.

Together they built a thriving business in D&J Manufacturing in Fulton SD. They made trapping supplies for Herters and hunting and fishing supplies for Cabela's Inc. Sadly, the business closed its doors in 1982 when Donnie's health began to fail. She and Donnie farmed, raised AKC registered dogs, and both worked for Herters Inc. in Mitchell. They were avid sportspeople and enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, and shooting trap for Herters. They were active in Foster Care.

They both attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, where she graduated with dual degrees in Psychology and Human Services and in Chemical Dependency Counseling in 1990.

They loved to garden and can vegetables. Judy always kept gorgeous flower gardens until Donnie passed away, and her own health began to decline.

Judy was a kind and loving soul, and would never refuse anyone in need. She loved animals and enjoyed a menagerie of wild and domestic pets. She and Donnie kept a pet raccoon, fox kits, and even after Donnie's passing she raised an injured Kestrel (bird of prey) and helped to rehabilitate it. She could never refuse any soul in need. Judy was a warm and wonderful lady and will be dearly missed.

Judy raised her grandson, Brody, and loved attending all her grandchildren's school activities and sporting events whenever possible. She was always so proud of her girls and her precious grandbabies.

She is survived by her 3 daughters, Christina (Todd) Lysne of Huron; Jenifer (Kenneth) of Alexandria; and Nicole Chivington of Tyndall; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Wernick of Florida; brother, James Jr. of Iowa; Godson, Rex Young; and many beloved family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald; daughter, Nina Chivington; granddaughter Ellie; parents; brother, David; in-laws, Donald Sr. and Rosalie; and several brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
