Alfred "Bud" Cooper, 76, of Mitchell, SD, passed away Sunday, August 22, 2021, at his home under hospice care of natural causes. A memorial service will be at 1:00 PM Friday, August 27, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday, at Bitter Funeral Chapel. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Alfred F. “Bud” Cooper Jr. was born on September 1, 1944 in Mitchell, SD to Alfred F. “Bud” Cooper Sr. & Lois (Kehler) Green. Bud graduated from Mitchell High School in 1962. He loved to play basketball and pole vaulted in high school.
From 1963-1966, he was married to Kathy Thurman having two children Brian and Lori. In 1965 he met Liz Morehead who became the love of his life. They separated in 1966. From 1966-1980 he was married to Verlyn Green having two children, Jason & Keri. In 1980, Bud and Liz were reunited and married in April 1981. One child was born in 1967 to this relationship, Tommy. Bud and Liz have been married for 40 years.
Bud worked most of his life in heating & air conditioning. In 1980 he went to work at Trail King and retired in 2009 after 29 years.
Bud was an avid fisherman (mostly bass), hunter, and enjoyed doing these with his sons, grandsons, brother, and best friend (Gale Page).
Bud enjoyed going to his grandkids' basketball and football games, attending some in Montana when able to go.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Liz of 40 years; 5 children: Brian (Toni) Cooper-Durst, Billings, MT; Lori (Lee) Cooper-Ellis, Billings, MT; Tommy (Jennnifer) Cooper, Mitchell, SD; Jason Cooper, Sioux Falls, SD; Keri (Jerry) Cooper-Bellovich, Granite City, IL; 14 grandchildren: Bryanna (Frank) Zavala, Billings, MT; Sierra (Andrew) Thies, West Jordan, UT; Chad (Nikki) Hofmann, Billings, MT; Kayla (Colter) Brown, Huntley, MT; Kordel Ellis, Billings, MT; Ethan (Taylor) Cooper, Christian Cooper, Anna (Ryan) Cooper, all of Mitchell, SD; Fawn Steinfurth, NC; Stormy (Ben) Gimbel, Sioux Falls, SD; Samantha Cooper, Sioux Falls, SD; Derek Bellovich, Shawn (Brittney) Bellovich, Jocelyn Bellovich all of Granite City, IL; 10 ½ great-grandchildren; brother, Louie (Laurie) Cooper, Mitchell, SD; sisters, Carol Kusler, Mitchell, SD and Linda (Don) Maciej, Royalton, MN; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great friends and special friend Gale Page.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1975, mother in 2004, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials.
