Mary Frances Hildebrand

June 1, 1917 - October 28, 2014

Mary Frances Hildebrand was born June 1, 1917 in Kimball, SD to Joseph and Mary (Ruman) Petula.  She married the love of her life, Melvin Hildebrand on June 6, 1938, after meeting him at a barn dance at Platte, SD. They were married 69 years, residing in Mount Vernon where they owned and operated the Hildebrand Hardware Store. She is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and family member who always placed the happiness of others over herself. Mary played the role of grandmother with ease, always baking and providing the kind of love and entertainment needed to make her family feel at home.  She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and St. Michael’s Church Altar Society.  She was noted as an exceptional baker of pies, cookies, and pastries for local bake sales and actively volunteered for community and school events.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, her parents, two sisters: Frances Mitchell and Anna Bravek, three brothers: Frank, Louis and Joe Petula.  She is survived by her son Jim (Janeen) Hildebrand, Austin, TX: and a daughter, Pat (John) Wieczorek Mt. Vernon; three grandsons: Travis, Justin and Josh Hildebrand and two granddaughters: Sarah Wiezcorek, Thoreson and Lindsay Wieczorek and eleven great-grandchildren: Chance, Dax, Vale, Kyla, Ian, Sydney, Henry, Pierce, Oliver, Bennett and Adeline.

The family would like to thank Avera Brady Health & Rehab

in Mitchell for their compassion and care during her final days.
