Charlette Mae Stas was born on March 14, 1943 at Huron, SD to Raymond & Hazel (Baughman) Songer. As a young girl her family lived in several places around western South Dakota; primarily in the Gregory, Dallas and Winner areas.
In the summer of 1979 she met and started dating Sterling Totton and gained four more daughters. They have been together for 35 years and have been true soulmates.
She worked at the Gregory Day Care in Gregory, SD for ten years prior to moving to Mt. Vernon, SD in 1991. For a short time she worked at Dakota Pork at Mitchell and National Food Corporation at Plankinton, SD. Later she worked at the Storla Sunset Home at Storla, SD as a dietary aid and then a housekeeper for twelve years before retiring in 2003 due to health. She is loved and will be missed by many.
Charlette is survived by four sons: Rick Stas, Mitchell,SD, Kip (Angie) Stas, Rigby, ID, Rex (Tonya Metter) Stas, Huron, SD and Ryan (Kandi) Stas, Huron, SD; six daughters: Kay (Jason) Currey, Mitchell, SD, Kari (Justin) Meyer, Mt. Vernon, SD, Tami Totton, Sioux Falls, SD, Kim (Luther) Smith, Sioux Falls, SD Wanda Jennings, Letcher, SD, and Lanita (Lynn) Gregerson, Delmont, SD; four sisters: Iola Hamilton, Tuscon, AZ, Geneva (Duke) Leetch, Huron, SD, Velda Schnellbach, Del Rapids, SD and Leota Story, Bassett, NE and four brothers Keith (Rose) Songer, Huron, SD, Wayne (Barb) Songer, Huron, SD, Larry Songer, Huron, SD and Calvin Songer, Norfolk, NE; thirty-two grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Rodney; six brothers: Kenneth, Dale, Leonard, Lester, Melvin, and Donald.
