LaRue Doris Heinert was born February 14, 1928 at Tripp, SD to Otto and Helen (nee Heinrich) Schnabel. She attended rural elementary school, graduated from Tripp High School in 1945, and then received her R.N. diploma upon her graduation from Methodist State Hospital in Mitchell in 1948. She worked at the Methodist Hospital and also at Dr. Robert Weber’s Eye Clinic and while at the hospital she met Herb Heinert whom she married on September 14, 1952. The Lord blessed their union with three children: Susan, John, and Duane.
LaRue and Herb lived in rural Mitchell and upon their retirement moved to the city of Mitchell in 1989. LaRue enjoyed being with her family and friends especially those at Zion Lutheran where she taught VBS, served on the Altar Guild and Funeral Committee, played in the Bell Choir, was a member of LWML, and did many shut in visits. Along with her many church activities, she also enjoyed doing Meals on Wheels, volunteering at the hospital, gardening, sewing and involving herself with her children’s numerous school activities.
LaRue and Herb lived at Wesley Acres and upon her ill health, she moved to Country Side Living and finally to the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket, SD where she died on Saturday, April 25th at the age of 87. LaRue lived her life in loving her family, caring for her friends and following her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her children: Susan Stern and Rev. John of Apple Valley, MN, John Heinert and Darla of Twinsburg, OH; step-daughter, Judy Kayser and Richard of Alexandria, SD; daughter-in-law, Patti Heinert of Omaha, NE; one sister, Norma Konrad of Parkston SD; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
LaRue is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son, Duane, along with step-daughter, Karen Cheeseman, one infant daughter, Mary Helen, one brother, Harvey Schnabel and a granddaughter, Nikki.
