Marie Alda Kobold

November 11, 1935 - November 5, 2015

Alda Kobold was born November 11, 1935, in Crosby, ND to Roy and Elsie (Hennis) Wells. She attended grade school at one-room country schools in Divide County and went to Crosby High School graduating in 1953.

Alda met Donald Kobold in June, 1953 (Don was in-love at first sight).  After their first date Don introduced himself to her family and proceeded to let them know that she would be his wife.  They were married on November 23, 1953 and celebrated their 45th anniversary in 1998.

After Don was discharged from the Air Force they moved to Denver, Colorado.  Their first daughter Sherry was born in 1955 and their second daughter Stacey was born in 1972.  Their grandson Michael was born in 1973 and was raised by Don and Alda.

Alda worked as a bookkeeper for Skaggs Company for 10 years before moving to Mitchell, SD in 1977.  Alda was Manager of the Thunderbird Motel for 15 years before her retirement.

Alda enjoyed gardening, playing scrabble, crossword puzzles, reading, and visiting with friends over coffee.

She enjoyed many friendships over the years – she was grateful for those who stayed close after her husband passed away and were there for her during her illness – She was especially grateful for her friendship with Linda Usselman during the past year.

Grateful for having shared Alda’s life are her Daughter: Stacey Usselman (Travis) and their children Jacob & Sascha, of Aberdeen and her Grandson: Michael (Shanna) and their children Mason, Sean, & Thea; her sister-in-law Karen Totton; brother-in-law Sterling Totton; and “brother-in-law” Fred Kobold (Pat).

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don in 1999; her daughter Sherry in 2001; her infant great-granddaughter Julia in 1993; her sister, Delaine; her brother, Duane; and her infant brother, Keith.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials.

Alda was my favorite aunt. I so vividly remember the laughs and conversations when she and Don would visit my mom and dad at the farm near Wildrose. She was a good person. She will be missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Alda's passing. She was the mother we all wanted to have. Alda used to make us lunch or have all the foods we loved so we could run in -eat and then run out in high school. I know that she loved all her family and would do anything for them. Losing Don and Sherry were very hard on her. But we all have a guardian angel up there for us all. Stacey, Michael and all the family --you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Alda was a very calm, wise lady. I enjoyed every minute of our visits. I used to spend alot of time with her and Sherry and miss them both. I was lucky to have known both of them. All our thoughts are will your family now. I hope her, Don and Sherry are having a coffee break about now in Heaven :)
