Patricia Lavonne Brewer was born November 2, 1928 at Faulkton, SD to Frederick and Rose (Anglin) Sweetland. She grew up in Orient, SD and was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She graduated from Orient High School in 1946. On May 31, 1947 she married James Brewer at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton. Pat was a CNA at Shirk Memorial Health Care Center and was employed as a clerk at the Red Owl grocery store and Bachmayer Lumber Company in Faulkton. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ethan, SD, Catholic Daughters of America, Altar Society and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. She was a volunteer at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and in the schools and communities in which she lived. Pat had many hobbies and interests throughout the years, reading, playing bridge and piano, dancing (with Jim), singing, cooking and baking, crossword puzzles, gardening, sewing and most of all, spending time with her family and friends. Pat had a rich sense of humor, regularly bringing smiles and a good laugh. Her family happily and proudly referred to her as a glorified word smith, most likely stemming from and enhanced by her avid enjoyment of doing crosswords. Her perseverance was a daily example to others. Her love for family and friends and her faith in and love for God are strong and a source of inspiration to all.
She is survived by her husband, Jim of 68 years, four daughters: Kathy (Tom) Holmes, Watertown, Viv Schneider, Mitchell, Barb (DeWayne) Anderson, Brookings, Cara Brewer, Aurora, CO, two sons: Greg (Marie) Brewer, Hermosa, James P. Brewer, Pierre, two sisters: Judy (Jim) Chittick, Advance, NC, Viv Skinner, CA, nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, five sisters, a grandson, Heath Scott Roseland and a great-grandson, Cornelius (Case) Brewer.
