David Lee Vilhauer was born August 10, 1950 in Parkston, SD to Nathan and Minnie (Batterman) Vilhauer. He graduated from Parkston High School in 1968 and then served in the South Dakota Army National Guard from 1969 till 1976. Dave was employed by Robert Burns Lumber and Peavey Lumber in Mitchell. In 1978 he started his own building construction business. On August 2, 2003 he married Carol Erpenbach Vearrier. For the past five years Dave was employed in maintenance at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital and he and Carol opened a Dollar Store. He will be greatly missed by his six girls (puppies), Chloe, Clancey, Mollie, Sammie, Abbey and Princess. He took them often for rides and to Arby’s for a roast beef sandwich. Dave was a hard worker and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; two children: Michelle Vilhauer of Sioux Falls and Jennifer (Steve) Lees of Jamestown, PA; five grandchildren: Taryn Harvey, Dawson Harvey, Erica Vilhauer and boyfriend, Adam Andersen, Hunter Lees and Brooke Lees, two great-grandchildren: Madisyn Vilhauer and Jaxson Andersen; four step-children: Scott (Kim) Vearrier of Mitchell, Tracy (Mary) Vearrier of Bismarck, ND, Jennifer Weaver of Mitchell, Sarah (Jason) Meusburger of Brookings; thirteen step- grandchildren: Mikala and Cortney Wendel, Tyler, Paige, Ava and Lily Vearrier, Bailey and Alexia Vearrier, Cayden and Devon Weaver, Gabe, Ellie and Sam Meusburger; one step-great-granddaughter, McKenzie; two brothers: Duane Vilhauer of Parkston, Dean Vilhauer of Lead; sister-in-law, Candi Vilhauer; three nephews: Brandon (Kristin) Vilhauer and their children, Tanner, Tucker and Kennedy, Cody Vilhauer and son, Kale, Tony Tigges; one niece, Breanna (Graham) McPherson and her daughter, Arianna.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael and his parents.
