Zachary Eric Buche

July 22, 1997 - October 17, 2016

Zachary Eric Buche was born on July 22, 1997 and lived in O’Neill, NE until he moved to Mitchell, SD with his family where he attended and graduated from Mitchell Christian School while competing in cross country, basketball, and track. He also played football for Mitchell High School. He loved Boy Scouts and received the highest honor of Eagle Scout. Zach was active in his youth group and passionately served on various mission trips to Puerto Rico, Acuna, and Juarez. He completed Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and began technical training in the spring of 2016. Zachary was an Airman First Class in the Air National Guard and was looking forward to his deployment in 2017. He was highly respected by his peers and commanding officers. Zach was also a cadet in the ROTC program at SDSU and majoring in Economics. He hoped to become an Intelligence Officer, following in the footsteps of his brother Tim. He dreamed of volunteering in a ministry to serve fellow airmen. As a freshman in college he recently joined the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and was involved in a variety of campus ministries. In his brief time at SDSU, he had already made dozens of friends just as he did everywhere he went. Zach loved working on cars with his brother Geoff and spending time at the beach, boating, skiing, watching movies, going out for coffee and Chinese food with his sisters Tiff, Lins, and Court. Zach and Courtney were best friends. His brothers and sisters-in-law thought the world of him. He was the most incredible uncle, brother, and son, and a friend to hundreds. He was loved by everyone who met him and had the best, funniest stories, if you could listen fast enough to catch them all. Zach was his dad’s little buddy and his mom’s right hand man, never complaining when asked to complete endless tasks. Zach leaves a hole that can never be filled. He is treasured and loved, walking the streets of gold next to Jesus, checking out his pecs.

He is survived by his loving parents, Greg and Deb Buche of Mitchell, SD and five older siblings: Tiffany & Neal Lange of Myrtle Beach, SC, Lindsey & Craig Alcock of St Paul, MN, Geoffrey & MaryAnn Buche of Lake Andes, SD, Timothy & Emily Buche of Colorado Springs, CO, and Courtney & Dustin Bergmeier of Omaha, NE, as well as his adoring nieces and nephews, Amy, Landon, Alyssa, Gavin, Lydia, Devin, Zane, Valerie, Brody, Whitney, & Claire; grandparents, Paul & Dorothy Patton and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob & Dorothy Buche.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Zach's family during this difficult time. Zach was a good friend and an all-round good guy who always offered encouragement . I remember one time in speech class I was in a group with him and we were having a hard time coming up with a topic for an outline, and he came up with a topic by the use of his intelligence, talents, and motivation. He will be greatly missed and the impact he left will never be forgotten.

Bridget Berigan is my dear friend and "second mother" to my children, Christine and Loice, who came with Bridget and her family to Zach's memorial service. I am writing to say that I am so sad for your loss. Even though I did not personally know Zach from all I have heard he was a fine young man, blessed everyone who knew him. Your family will remain in our thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks and months.

My sincere sympathy to you Greg, Deb, your family and all of the Buche family. My heart is breaking for all of you. My prayer is that our Lord Jesus is with you through this sad time, that you are aware of His arms around you and the peace that only He can provide. We are promised eternal life from our Lord and that is what keeps us strong. I pray that you find comfort in God's word and in helping each other along on this journey. My love and prayers to all of you.

Even though I had only known Zach for a few months, he still had a great impact on my life. We met the 2nd day of classes at SDSU as we had speech together. We had just begun to become closer. We sit in groups in that class, and a couple weeks ago he switched groups to sit by me. He always knew what to say to me to calm me down before I had to go speak. He was a true leader and a great friend. He will be dearly missed by me, section 61 of speech, and the whole college in general. I am praying for your family during this difficult time. I will do everything I can to keep his memory alive at SDSU.

Greg and Deb, I do not know you or your son Zach. But just reading his obituary shows me what an incredible young man you raised. I lost my 11 year old daughter in 2013. Losing a child is unlike anything else. I know God is with you. I know He will hold you and help you grieve. Please know that even in this article your son's life is touching people.

We can't express fully the ways we want to show our love to you all. Your entire family has always been such a blessing to us. I will always remember Zach as the young gentleman that was so tall now that I had to look up into his eyes, telling me about his plans for the future at Courtney's wedding. He was so respectful, as are all your sons. I thought of all the training you did to teach them to be gentlemen and how spectacularly all three sons have carried on with what they learned in your home. Zach's ever present smile lit up any room he was in. I can only hope that the hugs I'll deliver tomorrow will convey the depth of our love and willingness to listen and be there for any of you any time. You are all deeply loved and we pray that as God shows You HIs love that it will be revealed to you in infinite ways and in tender healing ways how much He is carrying you through and is always still with you every moment of the day.

Zach was a student in my ECON 109 class. Even in the sea of 150 college freshman, I remember Zach vividly. He came to every single class and always had a smile on his face. When completing an assignment where he had to conduct a professional email, Zach wrote about his love for his family and even attached a family picture so I could see. He obviously loved many and was loved by many as well. I am so sorry for your loss and will continue to pray for comfort.

I had heard about Zach's enlistment in the Air Force from his proud brother Tim. You could see the child-like glee in Lt Buche's eyes when he talked about his brother being in the Air Force too. God's speed, Zach.
