Morris David Fessler


August 23, 1928 - November 15, 2016


Morris David Fessler was born August 23, 1928 in Mitchell, SD to Victor and Eleanor (Getty) Fessler. He grew up on the family farm near Fulton and graduated from Plano High School. In 1951 he was drafted into the US Army, where he was stationed in Korea and attended engineering Mechanic Schooling in Japan. After being discharged in 1953 Morris returned to the family farm. On December 14, 1959 he married the love of his life, Darlene Anne Kott, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Morris enjoyed flying airplanes, old cars and guns. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, the Mitchell Flying Club, Firesteel Gun Club through the civilian marksmanship program and served on the Plano Township Board for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene; seven children: Perry (Dixie) Fessler, Fulton SD, David (Diane) Fessler, Fulton SD, Rhonda Schleich, Alexandria SD, Gary (Vicki) Fessler, Mitchell SD, Ron Fessler, Mitchell SD, Lisa (Jim) Friedt, Aberdeen SD, Cheryl (Jim Puetz) Fessler, Brandon SD; 12 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one sister, Linda (Don) Kuder, Mitchell SD.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Darlene and family, I'm so sorry that Morris passed away but he certainly lived a full and productive life. Due to circumstances with Marlin, I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend the visitation or funeral. Only time will tell in the next few days. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your entire family.

I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I babysat for the kids a few times and admit I wasn't very good. I think he knew my frustrations and he gave me a teaspoon of peppermint schnapps one night before I went home. He was a a very kind man.

Darlene and family, Morris is going to be greatly missed by all who knew him. His smile will never be forgotten. I will never forget the conversations we had during the times I cleaned his teeth. So very sorry for your loss. May God give you all strength and peace.
