Donald Roger Radel


March 22, 1930 - January 14, 2017



Donald Roger Radel was born March 22, 1930 at Emery, SD to William and Leah (Lang) Radel. He grew up attending schools in Emery and Parkston, graduating from Parkston High School in 1948. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was discharged in 1954. On November 24, 1952 he married Virginia Lorraine Toben at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. Don was employed at Wilson Motor Garage, Francis Agnitsch Station and Rozum Motor Company. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher, was a member of the United Methodist Men, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia; one son, Donald (Carol) Radel; two daughters: Sandra (Donald) Walker and Cynthia (Robert) Unruh all of Mitchell; four granddaughters: Carmen (Chris) Fischer, Rachel Radel and friend, Shaun Osby, Laura Radel and Laramie (Matt) Beck, two grandsons: Brandon (Katie) Unruh and Shawn Walker; five great grandchildren: Emma, Isaac, and Elijah Fischer, Hadley Unruh and Adelynn Beck and a sister-in-law, Margaret Toben.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: LaVerne and Glen, brother-in-law, Delbert Toben, sisters-in-law: Bernice Radel and Dolores Radel and daughter-in-law, Gayle Radel.
