James Willems, 75, Mitchell, SD died Monday, May 29, 2017 at his home under hospice care.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Friday, June 2 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 pm Thursday with a scripture service at 7:30 pm at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

James Leo Willems was born April 18, 1942 to Edmund and Sophie (Dhaemers) Willems in Rock County, MN.  He grew up in Jasper, MN and graduated from Jasper High School in 1960. He served in the US Marine Corps for three years. In 1964 he moved to Mitchell, SD. On February 19, 1966 he married Mary Johnson at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Jim was employed by Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and then worked as an appliance repairman for Montgomery Wards, Ideal Appliance and Sears, before owning his own repair business. He retired from Rew’s TV and Appliance.

Jim was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Marine Corps League and the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and golf.

He is survived by two daughters: Teresa Zirpel of Mitchell and Tammy (Dan) Swanson of Moorhead, MN, one sister, Judy (Arnie) Callsen of Hardwick, MN and four grandchildren: Kendra and Nate Zirpel and Josh and Megan Swanson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary in March 2016, four siblings: Lucille Bierman, Dorothy Serie, Gert Hoilland and Ed Willems.

To Jim's daughters, I am so surprised and saddened to read this. I did not know that Jim was ill. I am sorry for the difficult times your family has experienced with first your mom's passing and now your dad's. It seems like a lot in such a short period of time My thoughts and prayers are with you.
