Shane David Oberg

September 30, 1970 - October 6, 2017

Shane David Oberg, 47, of Artesian, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 6th, 2017. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Mitchell Assembly of God Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:30-7:30 PM at the Mitchell Assembly of God Church in Mitchell with a prayer service at 7:30PM.  Services are under the direction of the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Shane was born September 30th, 1970, to David and Nancy (Anderson) Oberg in Chisago City, MN. He began working at the age of 16 at Sell Publishing. He graduated from Summit Christian Academy in 1988, at the top of his class of one. He then attended Century College for law enforcement. Shane began working at Idea Goyr Mail, as well as Margaret S. Parmly Residence as a certified nursing assistant. While working at Parmly Residence, he met his future wife Jo Anne (Larson), and they began dating in 1995. In 1997, Shane and Jo became one in marriage in the presence of God and family. He welcomed three children into his life and was everything a kid needs and wants in a father. The family moved to Artesian, SD.  Shane started working as needed at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket in 1997.  He also worked full time at PBM packaging as a machine operator since 1998.

Through the years, Shane loved deer hunting with his father, sister, son and nephews. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, traveling, taking care of his dear dog, Alpha,  and spending time with family and friends, but, most of all, he loved being a Vikings fan and taking bus trips with Jo. He always made time to have fun despite often working overtime at two jobs. The number one thing Shane wanted his family to learn from him was to know God and always put Him first. He led by example in his church, Mitchell Assembly of God, where he was a board member for many years and taught Royal Rangers for nine years. He was involved in many community activities including chain gang at Sanborn Central football games, volunteering at The Love Feast, and mowing and snow blowing for neighbors among many other things he enjoyed doing with his wife.

Shane is survived by his wife Jo; his son Tony (Caroline) Oberg with their children Audrey, Kaitlyn and Adrian in Howard, SD; his daughter Bonnie Oberg with her son, Ryleigh, in Mitchell, SD; his daughter Crystal (Benjamin) Stech with their children Elias, Noah and Lillian in Lincoln, NE; his parents David and Nancy Oberg in Chisago City, MN; his sisters Kim (Jim) Stone in Taylors Falls, MN, and Carey (David) Mosel in Lafayette, MN; his mother-in-law Phyllys Hargarten in Mitchell, SD; his mother-in-law Karen Larson in Hinckley, MN; his sister-in-law Davy (Jerry) Uecker in Mitchell, SD; his sister-in-law LaVonne Stevenson in Stacy, MN; his brother-in-law Jeff Larson in Mitchell, SD; his aunt Gerry (Al) Ohlgren in Menagha, MN; his uncle Ron (Bobbi) Anderson in International Falls, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents La Floyd and Nora Oberg and Ernie and Wanda Anderson, his father-in-law Dwaine Larson, and his brother-in-law Melvin Stevenson.

I was so saddened by the news of Shane's passing. I will always remember the years we spent as kids at the lake in the summer and the times playing in the park at grandma and grandpas house. I will NEVER forget that great laugh Shane had and big smile that he always wore! It's too bad that we were not able to keep in touch in the later years, that will be my loss. I will miss you, your cousin in Wisconsin.
