Wayne Hofmann, 73, of Mitchell, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 5:00 PM Saturday, October 14, at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with a 4:00 PM visitation with family present. Burial will be 10:00 AM Monday at Salem Mennonite Brethren Cemetery in rural Bridgewater, SD.
Wayne Allen Hofmann was born June 18, 1944 in Freeman, SD to Herbert and Rose (Hofer) Hofmann. He attended country school through 7th grade in Freeman. He moved with his family to California and finished elementary school, then graduated from Lodi Union High School in 1962. He attended the Baptist Church in Lodi, CA where he was baptized. He graduated from National School of Aeronautics, in Kansas City, MO where he specialized in Airline Training.
In 1970, Wayne turned a hobby into a fully operational business which he named Woodbridge Candles. In 1984, he moved back to Freeman and ran the business from there. He sold candles across the US, Mexico, and Canada until retiring in 2000. On June 2, 2001 he married Mary Lou (Pullman) Kelly at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell.
In 1994, Wayne was honored to travel to Mexico with Governor Walter D. Miller on a trade Mission. Wayne enjoyed traveling, making model cars from kits, geography, and was an avid follower of current events and world news. HE attended Salem Mennonite Brethren Church in Bridgewater, SD. He faithfully attended church at the Bethany Mennonite Church in Freeman. He loved his family and adored his five grandchildren, spending time with them often.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Hofmann, Mitchell; daughters Karen (Kelly) Sudbeck and husband Doug, Dimock; Kathy (Kelly) Metzinger and husband Brandon, Armour; grandchildren Landon, London, and Leyton Sudbeck and Callum and Blythe Metzinger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Rose Hofmann, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law Walter and Lydia Pullman.
