Bernadette Falk, 90, of Kearney, NE, formerly of White Lake, died Friday, November 10, 2017 at Mt. Carmel Home in Kearney, NE. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, November 16, 2017 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, White Lake, South Dakota with a burial at St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with a 7:00 PM scripture service with rosary. Arrangements are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Bernadette Blandina Falk was born November 15, 1926 in Presho, SD to Albert and Bertha Stevens.  She grew up in Presho, SD, graduating from high school in 1944.  Bernadette attended Southern State Teacher’s College and Black Hills State College where she obtained her teaching certification.

She taught grade school-aged children in Presho and White Lake, SD and later in Kearney, NE.

On June 13, 1950, Bernadette married Dale Falk in Presho, SD.  Two sons and one daughter were born to this union.  Dale and Bernadette farmed near White Lake until 1973 when they sold the farm and became motel owners in Kearney, NE.  In 1977, they purchased a motel in Winfield, KS, retiring there in 1991.  They remained in Winfield until June 2011 when they moved to New Holland, PA to be near family.  Dale passed away August 11, 2011.  In July 2016, Bernadette moved to Kearney, NE until her passing.

Organizations of service include Extension Club, Meals on Wheels, Member of St. Peter’s Church and Holy Name Church, where she also served on the respective Church Altar Societies.

Bernadette loved her children and grandchildren, enjoying many travels to visit/attend their special events.  She loved to tell stories, work crossword puzzles and read books.  She took pride in the beautiful roses that Dale grew in his gardens.

Bernadette is survived by daughter Jane and her husband Dave Nelson of Kearney, NE, son Brian and his wife Karen of New Holland, PA; daughter-in-law Cathy Falk of Coppell, TX; grandchildren Christopher and wife Jessi Nelson of Omaha, NE, Andrea Nelson of Omaha, NE, John Falk of Chicago, IL, Dan Falk of Burbank, CA, Karina Falk of Coppell, TX; great granddaughter Gabriella Nelson, Omaha, NE; brother-in-law Dale Hittner of Mitchell, NE; brother-in-law and sister-in-law John Paul and Marge Falk of White Lake, SD; numerous nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her husband Dale, son Thomas, parents, brothers Cletus and Bob, and sisters Cyrilla, Isabelle, Estelle, and Rachel.

I will never forget Aunt Bernadette ‘s laugh! So sad that all of the Stevens siblings are gone. Loved our visits to the farm.
