Andrea “Ann” Korthour, 78, of Mitchell, died Monday, November 27, 2017 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Andrea “Ann” Ellen Korthour was born March 29, 1939 to Thorval and Annie (Hoines) Liknes in Britton, SD. She was the youngest of four daughters. She grew up on the family farm in the Langford area and attended rural grade school. She graduated from Langford High School in 1956 and was valedictorian of her class. She was active in church activities throughout high school including playing organ and piano at her home church, Falnes Lutheran Church in Langford, SD. After high school she worked at the Aberdeen American News. On November 28, 1958 she married Raymond Korthour at Falnes Lutheran Church in Langford. The couple lived in Aberdeen, later moved to Webster, and moved to Mitchell in 1971 where they currently live.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved in the circle and many church projects. She belonged to several clubs and worked at the DWU book store. She was in charge of Congressman Jim Abdnor’s field office in Mitchell. She enjoyed following issues in politics and working with constituents. After retirement they spent the winter months in Mesa, AZ. When in Arizona, Ann enjoyed craft projects, playing bingo, and having coffee with friends and neighbors. She looked forward to “going south” each year.
Ann is survived by her husband Ray; two sons, Todd (Mary) Korthour, Shakopee, MN and Troy (Tari) Korthour, Watertown, SD; seven grandchildren, Stasha (Matt) Wuest, Milwaukee, WI, Matthew Korthour, Minneapolis, MN, Megan Korthour, Minneapolis, MN, Kyle Korthour, Sioux Falls, SD, TJ Korthour, Watertown, SD, Trevan Korthour, Sioux Falls, SD, and Riley Korthour, Mankato, MN; two great-granddaughters, Sophia Wuest, Milwaukee, WI, and Leafa Korthour, Sioux Falls, SD; and a sister, Mavis Erickson, Sioux Falls, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Kurt in 2002; and two sisters, Bernice Silen and Theola Eikanas.
