Dolores Eichman, 89, of Mitchell, SD, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at her home under hospice care in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, December 30 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
She was born January 16, 1928 in Mitchell, SD to Tim & Gladys (Gravelle) Mackey. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1946 then moved to California where she worked for State Farm Insurance. She returned to Mitchell and married her high school sweetheart H.C. (Ike) Eichman on December 27, 1948 in Mitchell, SD.
She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until 1951. She was a stay at home mother until 1969 when she started with Welcome Wagon and worked for them until 1998 when she started her own business, Welcome Service of Mitchell, which she worked with until her death.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Ambassador Club since 1982. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Chamber from 1986 – 1989. She was also a member of the 20th Century Club of Mitchell.
In 2013 she became the first recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year Award.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64½ years, Ike in 2013, her son Mark, parents, her sister LaVaughn Fjellestad and her husband Gilbert and their daughter Karen (Pinky).
She is survived by children: Lynn (Jerry) Metcalf, Laurie (Lou) Cooper, and Mary Eichman, all of Mitchell. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Matt Metcalf, Alison (Metcalf) Gardner, Brandon Cooper, Aaron Cooper, Jennifer (Cooper) Jurgens, Ashley Eichman; nine great-grandchildren; a nephew; and a niece.
