John Leitheiser

April 10, 1974 - January 2, 2018

John Leitheiser, 43, Emery, SD died peacefully Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at his home near Emery.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Saturday, January 6, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Emery. Burial will be in the St. Martin Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm Friday with a Scripture service at 7:00 pm at the Hettinger-Bittner Funeral Chapel in Emery.

John Gerald Leitheiser was born on April 10th, 1974 to George and Beatrice (Stoffel) Leitheiser in Mitchell, SD. He was the first of five children. He was later joined by brother Adam, sisters Diane and Sara, and younger brother Will.

John lived his whole life in the Emery area. He attended and graduated from Emery High School in 1993. Following graduation, he joined his parents on their dairy farm outside Emery. In 2008, he moved to his own farm and continued in the family business until his passing. John was dedicated to his farm tasks and enjoyed going into the field, provided the tractor had a cab and it was heated and cooled.

John was an active member of St. Martin's Catholic Church. His true passion in life was sports, having done stats and camera in high school, cheering on the home team in football and basketball, and running the scoreboard for the Dimock-Emery Raptors baseball team. He attended as many home and away games as possible. He was also a tried and true Vikings fan.

He leaves to mourn his passing his parents, George and Beatrice, his brother Adam (Greta) of Emery, sister Diane of Aberdeen, sister Sara (Kyle) Beach of Boone, IA, brother Will of Sioux Falls, nieces Bridgette, Allison, and Emily Leitheiser and Nora Beach, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his nephew Henry Beach, grandparents Joseph and Dorothy Leitheiser, and grandparents Gerald and Darlene Stoffel.

Very sorry for this loss, George, Bea & Family. John was a very caring guy and the very first citizen of Emery to greet our family when we moved in. He will always hold a special place in my heart. I am stuck in Zurich due to the east coast storm and unable to make it back for the services, but I'm sending my prayers to you all.

I am so sorry for your loss George, Bea & your entire family. John was such a great guy who truly was Emery's #1 fan. I always looked forward to coming back to Emery and running into John at church or out and about in town. He always made me smile. He will be missed.

George, Bea and family - so sorry for your loss. This was such a shock cause I had just saw him at the Bridgewater Emery boys basketball game against Canistota recently. You could just see the joy in his eyes as he watched them play and all the great features our new facility has. You are in my thoughts and prayers

John was very caring and very hard worker. You knew much about farming and loved the work. You were a great nephew and devote Viking fan. I'll missing talking about our rivalry, Packers and Viking. I will miss you. Love you John.

You were the first grandchild for Gerald and Darlene Stoffel and the apple of their eye!! I was amazed at the depth of knowledge you stored in your head and how you happily shared it with us. It was a joy for me to watch you deliver the cattle feed into their troughs using a tractor with TWO feed trailers attached. You were a master in my book! Rest in God’s love John
