Robert (Bob) Lee Loon was born on March 6, 1937 in Mitchell, SD to Alvin and Edna (Johnson) Loon. Bob graduated from Plano High School in 1957 and attended the Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, ID and finished his education at the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO with a Bachelors of Art. Bob married Rosella Marie McMillan in Denver, CO at the Edgemont Nazarene Church on June 8, 1962. Bob loved studying the Bible and had a beautiful singing voice. He enjoyed building playhouses for his grandchildren and neighboring families, remodeling homes, and was also a highly skilled plumber. Favorite activities of Bob’s include singing in Sunday evening services at his former church, Mitchell First Church of the Nazarene and making unique 3-wheelers by combining motorcycles and cars. As a young man, he had a brief stint as a preacher in the early 70’s, but spent most of his life as a self-employed truck driver travelling the United States with Rosella.
While delivering one of his beloved playhouses to a family in Spencer, SD, they were unexpectedly caught in the catastrophic tornado of 1998. The house and its residents, as well as Bob and Rosella, survived the event unscathed. As fate would have it, Bob and Rosella then moved from Mitchell to Spencer to live in the surviving home to this day.
Bob is survived by wife Rosella Loon of Spencer and his three children: Rosemarie Scott of Mitchell, Roberta (Jay) Prickett of Mitchell and Wesley (Kris) Loon of Franklin Park, NJ; five grandchildren: Crystal Scott, Allison Scott, Michael (Hannah) Scott, Tiffany (Tyler) Cadwallader, Tabatha Prickett and two great grandchildren: Wylee and Waylon Cadwallader, his brothers: Myron (Dorla) Loon, Jim (Colette) Scott, Dennis (Marie) Loon and Orland (Carolyn) Loon; and one sister, Judy (Rev. Dave) Donovan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Geraldine (Scott) Loon and his brothers Wayne and Dean.
