Gordon Walz, 53, Mitchell, SD died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Wednesday, April 18 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 pm on Tuesday with a Scripture Service at 7:00 pm at Holy Family Catholic Church. Arrangements are with the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Gordon Lee Walz was born November 1, 1964 in Mitchell to Aelred and Phyllis (Uttecht) Walz. He graduated from Parkston High School in 1983 and attended Diesel Mechanics School in Canby, MN. He was employed with Rozum Motor Company for several years.  He began working for Auto Body Specialties in 1987 and was currently store manager since 1995. On August 20, 1988 he married Debra Bartscher in Mitchell. Gordon enjoyed working on his 1969 Camaro and helping friends with their automobile projects. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and time at his parent’s farm.

He is survived by his wife, Debra, two children: Dillon Walz (Highmore) and Hailey Walz and her fiancé Mitchell Parker (Sioux Falls); his mother, Phyllis and step-father, Kenneth Leischner, brother, Glen (Elissa) Walz, father and mother-in-law, Bob and Leona Bartscher, brothers and sisters-in-law: Mary Bartscher, Carol (Mark) Peterson, Henry (Lesley) Bartscher, Eric (Carol) Hanks, Karen (Doug) Kroeplin, John (Tanya) Bartscher, Connie (George) Kutsaftis, Steve (Angela) Bartscher and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Aelred and sister-in-law, Roberta Hanks.

Man this is way way to soon. Gordy was one of the Gregory bunch that had way to much fun in springpatch and canby mn. I just can't believe it. Deb, Dillon and Hailey my heart bleeds and my prayers go to heaven for a good friend and his family (may the lord hold you and give you peace and keep you). My deepest sympathies to your family during this tender time. I am so sorry I could not be there for his funeral. Gordy was such a good man. His wonderful family is evidence of his love and devotion, and the care with which he sought to raise them. He will be missed. Know of my prayers for all of you.

Your family has been in our thoughts & prayers from the moment I heard of Gordy's hospitalization and my heart has been aching ever since his death. So many memories and conversations keep popping into my head I've had with Gordy! Hugs and healing prayers of comfort and peace to you all! I only knew Gordy for thirty years. He was wise well beyond his years. I always sought his advise. He had a calming way about him. I am a better person because of him.

I knew Gordy thru his whole career with ABS. All the times we talked I’ve never dealt with anyone as friendly, kind and honest as Gordy. He will be missed by all. Godspeed Gordy.
