Irene was simply a unique woman. She had a heart for people. I met her and Tommy in 1992. They were a match made in heaven. Both could strike a conversation with truly anyone. My life 8s better for having known them both and I will especially miss Irene's keen sense for others. Because of Jesus I will see her again.

Irene's Celebration Of Life is taking place as I write this. Irene,we will forever miss your powerful voice and your, oh so sharp, mind. Our mother Gayle, may she rest in peace, would have been devastated today to lose her confidante, aunt, friend and favorite family member. We just wanted to say "Good Night Irene" . We will miss you terribly, Colleen, Cathy, Jorgia and Jolie

Although I never meant Irene, I am related to her daughter through her husband, Scott. Joan is a wonderful person and I'm sure she gets this through her upbringing. May you have peace.

Met Irene at JVCC at their dances. She was always so friendly and full of energy. Once she met you she remembered you. Special lady.

Irene was a very wonderful volunteer for so many different programs. She was always so willing to help out and loved to visit with others.

We wanted this to be read at Irene's service but were informed it was going to be very short and with no story sharing. We loved Aunt Irene and wanted to share this somehow. So here it is:

First we would like to apologize for not making it to Aunt Irene’s celebration of life. We are Irene’s nieces Colleen, Cathy, Jolie and Jorgia. Irene was married to our Moms Dads brother Uncle Tommy. She and Tommy were a huge part of our lives growing up. There are so many wonderful memories of the farm they had in Fedora. And oh the home cooked meals Irene made us. (The fried chicken was always a favorite) We were fortunate enough to be able to come to Mitchell to visit her last year. And what a great visit it was. We actually had a hard time keeping up with her. She was such an amazing and strong women, we all thought the world of her.
Our Mom Gayle (Betchel) Clarke was very close to Irene her entire life. They had a very special relationship. They would call each other weekly, so the miles between Colorado and South Dakota made no difference. They always knew what was happening in each other’s lives. We lost our Mom in 2016 and I know that was tough for Irene. She loved our Mother with all her heart and the feeling was always mutual.
We all stayed in touch with Aunt Irene and will miss her powerful voice on the phone. She was always interested in our lives and what was happening with our families. She was a true force of nature. Be at peace now with Uncle Tommy and give our Mom a big hug. We love you Aunt Irene!

Irene was my dad's cousin and her mother often babysat for us kids. Later in life when we had the opportunity to work together I really got to know Irene. She was a very upbeat, positive person who holds a special place in my heart.

Friends of Irene. We have been informed that the Celebration Of Life ceremony for Irene will be very brief and there probably won't be an opportunity to share memories or stories. Please feel free to place your comments here. We would cherish the chance to read them.

My first memory of Aunt Irene is with her and Uncle Tommy on the farm near Fedora, South Dakota. (1957?) What hard workers they were, and good-hearted, solid people. I remember Uncle Tommy trying to teach us how to milk a cow, and big family dinners cooked by Aunt Irene. If anyone has memories to share from back then - or any part of Aunt Irene's life - I would love to read them. My mom - Gayle (Betchel) Clarke - loved her dearly, and my sisters and I all miss her. We were very proud of her. - I hope your positive spirit stays with you through eternity.

Aunt Irene was one of a kind! A wonderful person who had a quick wit and memory beyond words! She loved life and volunteering her assistance at the hospital and especially the Corn Palace. A dignified lady with integrity and charm! I am proud to have had her in my life. Thank you Aunt Irene for all that you were! Mom (Gayle Clarke) was also proud to have you in our family and loved you to pieces! Go with God, we love you!
