Harley Fluth

Harley Fluth, 90, of Emery died, Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, August 8, at First Baptist Church in Emery.  Burial will be in Emery Community Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Emery.  Funeral services are under the direction of the Hettinger-Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Harley Warren Fluth was born on January 31, 1928, to Jacob and Marie Bunger Fluth. Upon confession of his faith, he was baptized and accepted into the fellowship of First Baptist Church of Emery where he was a lifelong member.

Harley married Marjorie Janssen on October 19, 1949. They farmed east of Emery. In 1966 he placed 1st in the state and 3rd in the nation in a corn picking contest. During his lifetime Harley served on the Bridgewater Township Board, the Rural Emery Fire Board, the Emery City Council and Mayor (1994-2011), and was a Senior Meals Volunteer.

Harley enjoyed singing. He sang bass in the King's Kinsmen Quartet. A highlight was when the quartet sang at Bill Janklow's gubernatorial inauguration in 1979. He also sang with the church and community choirs. In 1991 Harley and Margie retired and moved into Emery. On April 11, 2012, Harley suffered a stroke and became a resident of Diamond Care Center.

 He is survived by his wife, Margie, of Emery; children, Evan and wife, Vicki, of Ethan; Audrey and husband, Jerome Jucht, of Sioux Falls; Joel and wife, Donna, of Emery; Stan and wife, Marlene, of Sioux Falls; and Jeff and wife, Joyce, of Emery; 14 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Lester. Harley was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Marie, and two brothers, Alvin and Don.

I will always remember Harley. He always made us laugh. He made it so much fun to take care of him. My prayers are with Margie and the family. So sorry for your loss
