Camille "Cami" Cohu

April 4, 1980 - August 9, 2018

Camille Janae Cohu, 38, entered this life April 4, 1980, in Kansas City, Missouri. Following a brief struggle with cancer, she died at home in Mitchell, SD, in hospice care August 9, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday August 14, at Faith Missionary Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Born prematurely, Cami revealed herself as the “little but mighty” fighter she was, surviving and thriving to come home and join her parents Tom and Inez Cohu, a brother Rollin and a sister Sheri. One more brother Michael completed the family.

With the exception of several years in Vacaville, CA, Cami grew up in Blue Springs, MO, graduating from Blue Springs High School in 1999. She graduated from Mid-America Nazarene University in 2004 with degrees in history and communications.

Cami based her career at Nazarene Publishing House in Kansas City, MO. By the time illness forced her to discontinue working, she was Supervisor of Customer Service—an umbrella title that covered multiple functions. She moved to Mitchell, SD, in 2017 but continued employment with NPH, working long distance from home.

Cami’s interests included a love of the French language; as an accomplished clarinetist, participating in marching bands and pep bands in which she performed as section leader and held first chair; traveling; working intricate puzzles; attending good arts and crafts fairs; creating counted cross stitch items that were works of art; and history, especially that of World War II.

Cami could be fiery, especially when fighting for the underdog, and insistent upon “I did it my way,” but she never left out God nor did she lose sight of her goal to do something in life that would help people. Her faith was private but intense and deep.

Left to mourn Camille’s passing and to cherish her memory are her parents Tommie and Inez (Renberg) Cohu. Michael Cohu, Rollin (Monica) Cohu, and Sheri (Michael) Higgins, nephews Ian and Sean Cohu and nieces Adrianna and Linda Cohu, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as numerous friends.

Preceding Cami in death were her paternal grandparents, Glen and Una (Gillmore) Cohu; her maternal grandfather Donald William Renberg, maternal grandmother Mary (Ludwig) Renberg Hall, step-grandfather Melvin Hall, and an uncle James Renberg.

Thanks, Cami, for your kindnesses to me while I visited my daughter in your department at work. Spring talked a lot about you as her boss and how great the work atmosphere was. Thanks for the good memories. Give Jesus a big hug for us.

I remember Cami as a tiny baby and very sweet little girl. Tom, Inez, Michael, Sheri, Rollin, and family, I am so so sorry for your great loss of Cami! I just want to hug each one of you. I’m so glad my mom and Dad are there with you. I am praying you feel the tangible love and comfort of Jesus as you grieve. I love you all.

I was blessed to meet Cami at Mid America where we were classmates & friends. We took french together, she was much more accomplished than me! We did a final project together & decided to do a french cooking show. What a good memory. Blessings & Peace to all of her family & friends. Psalm 34:18 "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."
