Lavern C. Larson


October 25, 1927 - October 10, 2018


Lavern C. Larson, 90, of Mitchell, peacefully transitioned to heaven on October 10, 2018. He was blessed to be in his home with family by his side.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Monday at the Resurrection Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.  Funeral services are under the direction of the Bittner Funeral Chapel.

 Lavern C. Larson was born October 25, 1927 to Agnes (Mildenberger) and Clarence Larson. He attended and graduated from Letcher High school in 1946. He married the love of his life Corrine (Anderson) Larson November 12, 1949.

He loved raising his black Angus cattle and Quarter horses, Thoroughbreds and Arabians as well as farming many crops. He worked in the Letcher lumber yard and the Anderson lumber yard in Mitchell. In 1951 he started farming and ranching. He served on the Perry township school board. Was a committee member of the agricultural stabilization, the Lutheran church, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge and the Cubby's morning coffee group. In 1994 he moved off the ranch to Mitchell where he became an avid sports fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Mitchell Kernels. He loved cattle drives, rodeos, dancing, traveling around the world and spending time with his beautiful wife and family.

He is survived by his wife, Corrine; children, Diane Kendall, Mitchell, Vickie (Randy) Campbell, Dallas Tx, Kent Larson (Laureen Dunn) Aberdeen, and Patricia Larson Shields (Marion Dykstra), Stickney and Mitchell; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters; three sister-in laws; numerous nieces; nephews; and family who learned from and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; four brothers-in-law; a sister-in-law; aunts; and uncles.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Resurrection Lutheran Church, PO Box 714, Mitchell, SD 57301 or to your favorite charity in his memory.

My Deepest Sympathy to you all. I, too, remember him being so kind, also I remember going to the farm and playing....and eating, of course. (Leo and Elsie Hemmer's #6 of 12 children)

He was a true Gentle Man --- gave me and David Sibson a ride to Rapid City in his new car one summer long ago --- We too send our sympathy to his Family and Friends. Denny and Linda Hemmer Clear Lake, SD (Leo and Elsie's oldest son).

So sorry for your loss. The video is wonderful, truly "A Hymn of Grateful Praise" for a life well lived, well loved. Corrine, may the love of God, your memories of life with Lavern, the love of your beautiful family, as well as the promise of eternal life sustain you through the lonely days ahead.
