Geneva Delzer, 83, of Mitchell, died Friday, November 9, 2018 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, November 15 at the First Presbyterian Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Geneva Helen Delzer the youngest of 10 children was born March 6, 1935 at Yankton, SD to Ambrose and Emelia (Blaha) Hovorka. At the age of four her mother died and she was raised by two aunts. She grew up on the family farm near Tabor and attended country school. While attending Tyndall High School she lived with her aunt Tracy and spent weekends on the farm helping her father with household and farm work. Following High School she worked for the Department of Agriculture ASCS Office for several years. On September 20, 1958 she married Melvin Delzer at the Tyndall Presbyterian Church. In 1962 they moved to Mitchell where Geneva was employed as a secretary for Boyden and Kappenman Dentists. Geneva and Mel enjoyed camping, traveling to many states, going on bus tours and visiting relatives. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and taking care of her grandchildren. She was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church where she held various positions, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Extension Club.
She is survived by her husband, Melvin, daughter, Peggy (Dennis) Thill of Mitchell, son, Perry Delzer of Scottsbluff, NE, brother, Richard (Sharleen) Hovorka of Tabor, seven grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Margie Hovorka of Tyndall, Irene Hovorka of Yankton and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Eleanor and Loreen, brothers, Lloyd, Herman, Cleadeus, Willard, Lester and Alvin.
Memorials are preferred to be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to your favorite Cancer Society.
