Obituary

Phillip Burns, 36, Denver, CO formerly of Mitchell, SD was granted his Angel wings on Monday, December 3, 2018.  Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, December 14 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Thursday at Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Phillip Allan Burns was born May 18, 1982 in Mitchell, SD to Charles and Bonnie Burns. He continuously attempted the impossible to reach the possible. Phillip always had smiles to give away and countless stories to tell. While he loved the outdoors and writing, his greatest joy in life was being a dad. Phillip will always be remembered as a father and a friend who was like indelible ink, he was always there for anyone who needed him. He was funny, yet his hand gently guided with strength and courage. He was granted his angel wings and now his light will shine down through the heavens.

Phillip is survived by April Trotter, mother of his two sons, Austin and Elliot Burns all of Colorado; his girlfriend, Justina Jones and her three children, his mother, Bonnie Burns of Mitchell, father, Charles Burns of Sioux Falls, brother, James Burns of Mitchell, sister, Jenny (Jerell) Pfeifer of Alaska and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents.

Burns, Trotter, and Family of Phillip. So very sorry for your loss. I worked with Debbie at Vestas in Brighton on the B shift and Phillip worked in the same department on the A shift. We would always see Phillip on our change over shifts, always a hard-worker, he did the best job of running his shift, and his quiet demeanor always belied an intellect far superior to Vestas. Many prayers and deepest sympathies for your loss. Phillip you left too soon but sometimes God's plan is greater than we can imagine and although your friends and family are suffering, God must have needed you up there to help your family and friends on Earth. R.I.P. Heather Metz.

I worked with Phil at USPS in Brighton, CO. He was a great man, always there to to help out and gave everything of himself to anyone in need and did everything he could for his boys. I think I'll miss his puns the most, Phil always made us laugh, even when we were exhausted and over worked during our peak season. He will definitely be missed and always in our hearts

Thoughts and prayers to the family. I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. Phillip was always one to put a smile on your face when we were in high school. Great guy and He will always be remembered. God gained another angel.

Our thoughts are with your family. We are deeply sorry for your loss. One day soon, death will be eliminated for good (Isaiah 25:8), and we'll have the opportunity to welcome back our loved ones. We look forward to that time with you.

I am so deeply sorry for the loss of a beloved family member in the Burns household. Praying for comfort where it is not easily understood how Phillip would be gone from this earth so early.

On December 3rd our family suffered a tremendous loss. God gained another angel, we may not understand now why He called you home. The world lost a wonderful soul who will be forever missed. Philip burns, a son, a bother, a cousin, a friend and confidante but his most important role of all was a father. You were taken from us way too soon but in our hearts you will remain. My heart goes out to his children, his parents and siblings. He was loved by many and his legacy will remain deep in my heart.

Each night I she'd a, silent tear
As I speak to you in prayer
To let you know I love you
and just how much I care
Take a million teardrops
Wrap them up in love
Then ask the wind to carry them
To you in heaven above

April, Austin, Elliot and everyone else that loved and cared about Phillip, no words can express how incredibly sorry we are for your loss. We will treasure the memories of our candlelight Christmas Eve dinners, fixing fence on the farm, our trip to the Black Hills and our camping adventure in Estes Park - the laughter, the hikes, panning for gold, the Maze... the good times. We are so very sorry!! RIP Phillip, you will be missed!!

You never said I'm leaving
You never said goodbye
You were gone before I knew it
And only God knew why
A million times I needed you
A million times I cried
If Love alone could have saved you
You never would have died
In Life I loved you dearly
In death I love you still
In my heart you hold a place
That no one will ever fill
It broke my heart to lose you
But you didn't go alone
For part of me went with you
The day God took you home

Missing you Phillip. Condolences to the rest of the family.
