Alva Bullis, 96, of Mitchell, SD, died Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday, February 6 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service. Burial will be at the American Legion Cemetery in Mitchell.  Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Alva Erna Bullis was born August 24, 1922 in White Lake, SD to William and Emma (Maurer) Dethlefsen. She attended school in White Lake and Kimball. Alva married James B. Bullis on October 12, 1943 in Kimball, SD. She worked at the Methodist Hospital in Mitchell for 19 years and also babysat for many years.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Mitchell Senior Citizen Center.

Alva is survived by her children, James W. Bullis, Des Moines, IA, Donna (Jules) Wernick, Venice, FL, and Judith (Donald) Chivington, Fulton, SD; ten grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister Darleen Schertzer, Tacoma, WA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James; son, David; three sisters, Ella, Gladys, and Lucille; step-sister, Wilma; and a great-granddaughter.

We're deeply saddened to hear about your mother's passing. May God grant you strength and comfort as you reflect on the hope he's given us. She will be greatly missed.We have been neighbors for over 20+years now. She has always had great stories to share with me.
