LaVern “Bulgie” Baysinger, 81, of Forestburg, SD, died Monday, February 11, 2019 at his home in Forestburg.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, February 15, 2019 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian, SD. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM Thursday at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
LaVern Baysinger was born December 4, 1937 in Mitchell SD to Clyde and Esther (Christensen) Baysinger. He graduated from Forestburg High School in 1956 and then enlisted in the United States Army until he was honorably discharged in 1962. He married Nancy Jane Bauer in Woonsocket SD on October 29, 1960. After being discharged from the army, he sheared sheep and raised melons. He started working at Armour and Company packing plant in Huron in 1968 and worked there for 17 years.
He along with his wife Nancy continued to raise melons until 1973 when they began farming and ranching Southeast of Forestburg. They sold their livestock in 1998 and continued to farm for a few years before completely retiring.
LaVern enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Nancy went to Wisconsin salmon fishing several times and to Alaska once to halibut fish with his cousin. He loved to hunt Canadian geese and could hardly wait each year to go walleye fishing with his boat. In later years he loved to fish and camp with his family and friends whenever time allowed.
LaVern and Nancy raised 3 children, a daughter Marli Baysinger and sons Shane (Lynette) and Thad (Shawna) Baysinger all of Forestburg. They have 3 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and 8 step great grandchildren.
LaVern is survived by his wife of 58 years, his children, his grandchildren, his great grandchildren, a brother Dick Baysinger and sister Janet Eining along with their children. Preceding him in death were his parents.
