Obituary

Lorraine Raecke, 92, of Plankinton, died Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Wednesday, April 17 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Lorraine Raecke was born November 12, 1926 to Frank and Mary (Hettinger) Ries at White Lake, SD. She attended all eight grades at a rural school and graduated from White Lake High School in 1944. She attended Northern State College and received a State Teaching Certificate. Lorraine taught four years at Groton, SD. There she met Wallace Raecke and they were married on June 9, 1948. They lived in Ferney, SD for three years and then moved to a farm in Dudley Township, Aurora County. She helped on the farm and raised her family. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family and grandchildren. In January 2012 her husband, Wallace passed away. They had been married 63 years. She continued to live on the family farm until her recent failing health.

She is survived by two sons: Alan Raecke of Plankinton, Brian (Kathy) Raecke of Mitchell and one daughter, Karen (Sheldon) Clark of West Dundee, IL, five grandchildren: Sarah, Matthew, Elizabeth, Cassandra, Nathan, two step- grandchildren: Blaine and Lyndsey, seven great-grandchildren and one sister, Norma Nowotny of White Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Wallace.
