Michael Chan

May 20, 1952 - October 17, 2019

Michael L. Chan, 67 of Mitchell, SD passed away peacefully Thursday, October 17th 2019 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, in Mitchell.

In celebration of his life, services will be held at Bittner Funeral Home, October 20, 2019 at 1:00pm.

Mike was born May 20. 1952 in Sioux City, Iowa to Sundae and Frank Chan. Mike married Juli Hardy on January 17th 1975, they had two children together and made their home in Mitchell SD.

Mike and his family moved to Mitchell SD when he was recruited to work in the engineering dept. at Trail King Industries. Well respected for his Work at Trail King he continued his career there for over 30 years which allowed him to follow his passion of design.

He was well known in the community for his love to ride and his personal customization of his motorcycles. He won several awards including best in show, best in class, as well as he was featured in AL Harley's yearly calendar.

He was known and loved for his intelligence, humor, love for life and love for his family. Also, it should to be mentioned Mike was also known for his stubborn personality. A motto that would accurately fit him is "If I agreed with you, we would both be wrong". However, this stubbornness allowed him the ability to fight through any obstacles in his life and the ability surpassed everyone's expectations. Lyrics his granddaughter, Sydney, once told him reminded her of him truly fits his drive to succeed, "you never settle for less than gold, you're the best the world will know, no one would ever guess how far you'd go, you're the greatest, the greatest that ever was,

He did not lose his battle with cancer, see the cancer could not survive after he departed. Mike won.

He leaves behind his wife of 44 years Juli, two children Kelli (Daniel) Rehorst, Jeremey (Beth) Chan, two grandchildren, Sydney and Mason Rehorst whom he adored and he was always there for them and they

considered him their superman. One brother Gene (Jane) Chan, one sister Karal (Dale) Slate and multiple nephews and one niece.

He will be reuniting with his infant grandson, mother Sundae, father Frank, step father Max, father-in-law Ken, two brothers Daniel and Patrick and one great-nephew Tyler. We hope they are all ready for when Mike joins them, as he will be giving them all a run for their money.

Mike, You and I were best friends as we grew up together on the west side of Sioux City. I always looked up to you and you always pushed me to do things that I never felt capable of doing on my own. We had a bond that could never be broken. Even as the years passed by, and the many miles separating us, we always shared what was going on in each other's lives through Christmas greetings every year and an occasional phone call. My thoughts go out to each of your family as you remember Mike's love of life.

Mike, you were my best friend ever, from day 1 when I talked to you in the 9th grade play yard to the present. Including across the many miles separating us and transcending the long periods of time we didn't communicate. I will always remember you and the great times we shared. Thanks for that last phone call you made to me in the past 2 or 3 weeks, now even more precious for memories.

To Julie, Kelli, Jeremy, and Karal, and your family, Chuck and Rhonda and your son, including all family members not named, far and near...my love goes out to each of you as you confront the sadness of Mike's passing.

God's blessings go out to all of you and take comfort knowing the heavenly father will meet you at this lowest point in your lives and he will return joy!

As I read this I find tears I can not wipe away.. Mike was such an amazing man who always demonstrated the utmost love for his family and friends. I’m honored to have visited with him this past summer and reminisced about the days of Kel and I being little girls. I love you all. Sending love and hugs in hopes you find comfort during this time. Say hello to my parents Mike. You are already missed. And thank you for being such an amazing man
