Norma Jean Hofer

Norma Hofer, 86, of Mitchell died Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston, SD.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.  Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell.  Visitation will be Monday from 5-7:00 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Norma Jean Hofer was born September 13, 1933 in Mitchell, SD to John and Pearl (Adams) Mohr.  Norma attending school in Ethan, SD.  She married Joseph Hofer September 3, 1951. 

She was a stay at home mom for many years before she started working at Lueken’s Bakery in Mitchell.

After working at the Bakery she started her own business:  Norma Jean Crafts.  She sewed and sold Barbie Doll clothes at Craft Shows around South Dakota.

After retiring from doing Craft Shows she continue to embroider dish towels, pillow cases and baby blankets.

She lived at Wesley Acres for many years.  She enjoyed being involved with Bingo and playing cards with the residents.

 She is survived by four children:  Jody (Jim) Sprague, Yankton, SD Todd (Deb) Hofer, Neenah, WI LaRue (Clarence) Steffes, Mitchell, SD and Coral (Randy) Newsam, Mitchell, SD.  Brother-in-Laws Wilbert (Thelma) Hofer, Mitchell, SD Sister-in-Laws Verna Hofer, Mitchell, SD Pearl (Duane) Duba, Ethan, SD Rose Larson, Sioux Falls, SD Carol (Tom) Brown, Rapid City, SD  and Jesse Mohr, Bellevue, WA. Grandchildren: Teri Hare, Yankton, SD, Angie (Bill) Hanselman, Neenah, WI, Chris (Katie) Hofer Lander, WY, Trevor (Vicki) Steffes, Britt Steffes, Amber   (Mark) Barrett all of Mitchell, Jesse Bender, Pierre, SD Eric Bender, Worthington, MN, Ryan (Bella) Washington, DC, Heather (Aaron) Marmon, Gretna, NE and 19 Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 60 years, her parents and parents-in-law, one son Lance Hofer, one daughter Renn Hofer, two grandsons Sean Hill and Justin Bender, one great grandson Tyler Steffes, Brother Howard Mohr, Sister-in-law Mabel Voss, Brother-in-laws Bill Voss, Alvin Hofer and Carl Larson.

Norma was the kindest and sweetest coworker ever at Lueken's. Such a warm smile and kind heart. Rest in peace dear one.

My thoughts and Prayers are with you. I know your mom was having health issues but I guess the Good Lord was ready to take her home. Let God be with you all. I know you will all miss her very much so keep the Faith and trust that God will guide thru a very difficult time. I will not be able to be there to share your loss but you will always be in my Prayers. Cousin Ruthie.

I worked with Norma at Lueken's Bakery. I really enjoyed working with her and enjoyed when Joe would stop in. I have many fond memories of both of them. My sincere condolences to the family.

Norma worked with us for many years and was so well liked by all her co-workers. She was such a pleasant person and we felt blessed to have her on our team. Our sincere condolences to the family
