Janyce LaVay (Arshem) Bouza


March 27, 1936 - December 12, 2019


Janyce LaVay (Arshem) Bouza of Cottonwood, MN formerly of Mitchell, SD and Geddes SD, passed away December 12, 2019 at Fieldcrest Assisted Living under hospice care.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 16, 2019 at Geddes United Methodist Church in Geddes, SD.  Burial will be at Pleasant Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

Janyce LaVay (Arshem) Bouza was born March 27, 1936 as the second child to James and Vivian (Taute) Arshem at Geddes, SD.  Janyce was united in marriage to Arlen Bouza on March 29, 1954. To this union 5 children were born. Janyce and Arlen farmed the family farm east of Geddes until November 1981.  Arlen and Janyce then moved to Mitchell, SD.  Janyce was employed at Avera Queen of Peace beginning in 1982.  She enjoyed spending her life raising her children, knitting, crocheting, and playing cards with family and friends. She especially enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Janyce is survived by her children, Connie (Martin) Boettcher, Spencer, NE, Lea (Robert) Sala, Sioux Falls SD, Robert (Deb) Bouza, Parkston, SD, Debora (DeWayne) Renken, Cottonwood MN, and Kimberly (Scott) Johnson, Ankeny, IA; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, LaDene (Bouza) (Indahl) Nelson, Platte SD, and Elaine Arshem of Hartford, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arlen Bouza; parents, James and Vivian (Taute) Arshem; parents-in-law, George and Lillian (Varuska) Bouza; sister, Beverly Knorr; and brother, Donald Arshem; and brothers-in-law, Arnold Indahl, Leo Nelson, and Richard Knorr.

Am hoping to see each of you from time to time. This has left a big gap in my heart. It still is hard to believe she is not with us. I need to talk to someone and do some sharing. Didn’t get to have a long talk with Janice after we both lost our men.
