Kevin Neugebauer, 55, of Mitchell died Wednesday, December 25, 2019 at his home in Mitchell.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Dimock. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 31, 2019, from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Kevin Scott Neugebauer was born on March 24, 1964 in Parkston, SD, to Vernon and LaVerna (Doering) Neugebauer. He grew up on a farm west of Dimock and graduated from Parkston High School in 1982. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Dimock. He joined the National Guard 153rd Engineer Battalion, where he served for 13 years. He worked as a farm hand for various farmers in the area and held a variety of different positions in Mitchell through the years. Most recently, Kevin worked at the Davison County Highway Department for the past 6 years while also working part-time at Miller Gravel of Ethan. Kevin was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2016 followed by liver cancer in Spring 2018 and in spite of his many trips to Mayo as well as treatments in Sioux Falls, he fought hard and never gave up and continued to work both his full-time and part-time jobs, until just recently. He was admired by many for his inspiration through his cancer journey and his determination to fight until the very end!
Kevin was united in married with Christine Bassett on February 15, 2017 in Mitchell.
Kevin could repurpose literally anything and he was known for always being a helping hand to so many. He loved to tease and play jokes on people and always had candy in his pockets for the kids.
He loved to travel, collect guns, and enjoy his early morning coffee with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Neugebauer, Mitchell; parents, Vernon and LaVerna Neugebauer, Mitchell; siblings, Bryan (Carmen) Neugebauer, Dimock, Terry (Linda) Neugebauer, Bigelow, MN, LeAnn (David) Moe, Alexandria, and Tracy (Charlene) Neugebauer, Parkston; siblings-in-law, Brett Bassett, Mitchell, Deborah (Michael) Shannon, Mitchell, Pamela Armentor, Rockport, TX, Tim (Tammy) Bassett, Mitchell, and Toni (Chad) Weber, Dimock; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by Robert Bassett’s second wife, Gladys Bassett.
Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward & Clara Neugebauer and Renatus & Johanna Doering; parents-in-law, Robert and Mary Ellen Bassett; and niece, Ashley Moe.
