Rosemary Locken, 90, of Sioux Falls formerly of Mitchell died, Friday, February 14, 2020 at Avera Mckennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 22, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Friday at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.

Rosemary (Bowar) Locken was born March 23,1929 in Dimock, SD to Arthur and Bertha (Weber) Bowar. She attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Dimock, SD, and subsequently graduated from Parkston High School in 1947. She married Jerome C. Locken on April 21,1953 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock, SD. They lived in Richland, MO while he was in the military service, eventually settling down in Yankton, SD.

She moved to Mitchell with her children in 1965. She worked at Intercounty Electric for many years until her retirement in 1993 meeting several lifelong friends during her time there.

Rosemary was a long-time active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, where she was involved in many of the ministries and gave much of her time to the stewardship at Holy Family. She volunteered at Avera Queen of Peace, worked at many elections, delivered Meals on Wheels, helped with the Salvation Army food pantry, and was a member of RSVP.

Family was a very important part of her life. Her and her seven sisters enjoyed several activities and excursions over the years, including playing cards, attending family gatherings, planning weddings and baby showers, and eating sweets (of any kind imaginable). The sisters went to see the fall colors on the East coast, and traveled to Branson, MO to enjoy some country music. She went to Hawaii with her daughters, traveled to Alaska with her sister Doris, and traveled to several cities and states to attend her grandson’s weddings.

She is survived by four children; Kathy Waters, Sioux Falls, SD, Steve (Molly) Locken, Champlin, MN, Julie Locken, Reno, NV, Dawn Boosalis, Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Joe Waters, Ames, IA, David (Danielle) Waters, Chicago, IL, and Sam Waters, Swarthmore, PA; Dan (Amanda) Locken, North Pole, AK, Pat (Gretchen) Locken, Elk River, MN, Ben (Katie) Locken, Lino Lakes, MN; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Bert Schoenfelder and Adele Boddicker, both of Parkston, SD; and a brother-in-law, Arden Harvison, Platte, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Arlene, Rita, Betty, Doris, and Bobbie; brother, Larry; and son-in-law Greg Waters.

A lovely lady, with a sweet tooth and big heart, was called to Heaven on February 14, 2020. Her family will miss her infectious smile, spunk and the tower of strength she provided for us throughout our lives.

Beautiful obituary and learned even more about my best friend's Mom since our Junior High years together in Mitchell. So very sorry for you and your family's loss, Dawn. She will be remembered for more than just her amazing banana bread and for asking what time will we be home. So very sorry I can't fly in to be with you but am there in spirit and hugging you always. Our family will send a donation in memory of both your Mom and my Dad to the Alzheimer's Association. Rosemary was certainly an amazing, strong, kind and loving soul and will be dearly missed by many.

Thank you for sharing your sweet mom. I met her 10 years ago volunteering in the gift shop of AQOP and we always said our awkward hellos at the Alzheimer’s Walk in Sioux Falls. What a sweet smile and disposition. Rosemary made a quiet but positive difference in my life. Sorry for your loss. I will make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Rosemary and memory of my mom.
