Lorraine Storm

April 24, 1923 - March 12, 2020

Lorraine Anna Storm, age 96, while residing at Avera Brady Health Care Facility in Mitchell, was welcomed to her heavenly home Thursday, March 12, 2020. A private, family funeral service will be held Monday, March 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Church, (Hillside) rural Dimock. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Lorraine was born April 24, 1923, to Herman and Amelia (Goldammer) Olawsky in Douglas County. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church.

Lorraine married Gerhard Storm on September 12, 1945, at St. John Lutheran Church after waiting 4 years for him to return from serving in World War II. Together they farmed 11 miles west of Ethan. Lorraine, also, planted huge gardens, and canned hundreds of jars of dill pickles, sauerkraut, tomatoes, and lugs of peaches, pears, apricots, and cherries. She made the best plum and strawberry-rhubarb jams! She was an amazing cook and baker and will be remembered for her delicious meals. Her kuchens were enjoyed by her friends and family, especially by her grand-children and great-grandchildren.

Lorraine was active in women’s church groups, Bible studies, altar guild, and choir. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, extension club, birthday club, bowling, dance club, and playing cards. After moving to Mitchell in 1978, Lorraine and Gerhard enjoyed traveling to various parts of the country.

Lorraine centered her life around her faith and family, cherishing every moment spent with them. She was loving and caring to everyone. Her beautiful smile and kind and generous spirit will always be remembered. She was the best mom, mother-in-law, grandma, and great-grandma.

Left to cherish her memory are her 6 children and their spouses, Carolyn (Stuart) Doescher, Brandon, Glenn (Lois) Storm, Corsica, Chuck (Dee) Storm, Mitchell, Kathy (Chuck) Olsen, Yankton, Ken (Nola) Storm, Fargo, ND, and Jacque (Fred) Baatz, Pierre; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Doris Gerlach.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years in 2018; parents; brother, Norman Olawsky; in-laws Albert (Lea) Storm, Agnes (Ed) Isaak, Bertha (Fred) Diebner, Sophie (Adolph) Goldammer, Otto Storm, Erna (Albert) Goldammer, Arthur Storm (in infancy), Leonard (Lucille) Storm, Lawrence (Adeline) Storm, and Norman Gerlach.
