Karen Vickie Madison born on November 29, 1942 to Richard and Selma (Nelson) Madison, in Sturgis, SD. She grew up in Sturgis with her three brothers, Raymond, Shermon, and Gordon Madison. Karen married Earl Seymour at the age of 16, and together they had five children, Delanna, Doug, Blaine, Michelle, and Wendy. Karen spent most of her life dealing with the mental illness schizophrenia bipolar disorder, which kept her in and out of the Yankton State Mental Facility throughout her life. Karen was extremely close to her daughter Kristine, and always spoke of her to the nursing staff at the nursing home which was where she resided until her passing with her daughter Kristine by her side.
Karen was an amazingly kind person, and despite all the trials she faced, she always remained happy and full of laughter. Although Karen and Cristobal ended their relationship when Kristine was just a toddler, they made sure to always keep close contact speaking on the phone daily. He was very special to her, and was always there to help Karen in any way he could throughout the years.
Karen was given the nickname "Candy Lady" which originally came from her grandchildren and anyone who came across her. She was also known as the "Candy Lady" by the nurses and staff at the nursing home facility. Anytime you were to talk to Karen, she would make sure you were to receive a piece of candy from her.
