Ervin Winter, 88, of Mitchell, SD, died Friday, August 7, 2020, at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, August 17, 2020 at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell. A visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM on Sunday with a 6:30 PM prayer service at Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Ervin Elton Winter was born November 17, 1931 in Parkston, SD to Dewald and Pauline (Guthmiller) Winter. He attended country school near Parkston through the 8th grade. Later he attained his GED. He was united in marriage to Geneva Winter on April 8, 1956 in Parkston. The couple lived on a farm for 11 years before moving to Mitchell in 1967. Ervin was a loving husband and father to his family. He was a gas truck driver for Farmers Union and Cenex. Later he worked at Syncom. He was a member of the Parkston VFW, NRA, RMEF and NWTF. He also enjoyed going to their banquets. He liked to hunt, fish, read western novels and hunting magazines and do word search puzzles.
Grateful for having shared his life are his four sons, Brian Winter, El Cajon, CA, Mark (Sandy) Winter, Hartford, SD, Keith (Carol Moran) Winter, Old Lyme, CT, Kevin (Susie) Winter, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Bonnie (Keith) Struble, Mitchell, SD; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian (Fred) Timm, Temecula, CA; brother, Richard (Judy) Winter, Parkston, SD; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva; his parents; brother, Marvin Winter; 3 infant brothers; daughter-in-law, Gail Winter; and sisters-in-law, Marcella Werning and Anita Winter.
Memorials will be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospital.
