Obituary

Lorraine Hanten, 92, of White Lake, SD, died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Platte Health Center in Platte, SD. Funeral services will be 2:30 PM Tuesday, June 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in White Lake. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in White Lake. Funeral arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Lorraine “Rainy” Markhardt Hanten was born on October 10, 1928 to Charles & Minnie (Bogenhagen) Markhardt in White Lake, SD. She graduated from White Lake High School. She taught school, then worked in Plankinton, SD at the ASCS office until she married Oliver Hanten on January 17, 1964 and spent the rest of her life taking care of her family on their farm north of White Lake.

Lorraine was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was an organist and taught Sunday School for many years. She was active in community events. She was always available to lend a hand wherever needed. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. Daily, she could be found doing the crossword puzzle from the paper, word searches, and jigsaw puzzles.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Lisa, Mark, Lee & Jan Hanten; grandchildren: Olivia Hanten, Randa Vanden Hoek, and Skyler & Quinn Hanten; sisters-in-law: Susan (Mike) Kerrick, Arlene Hanten, and Dee Hanten; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, six sisters, and four brothers.

Lorraine was such a happy soul with a smile for everyone. I will miss her deeply at the nursing home. I always looked forward to seeing her each time I worked. Thoughts & prayers go out to her entire family. She's at peace now.

Lisa, Mark, Lee, Jan, and grandchildren. My sympathy on the loss of your mom and grandmother. She was a wonderful lady , full of fun and well loved. She is united with Ollie. Her memory will continue to live in your hearts.
