Ruth Eloise Auch was born November 15, 1920 at Chamberlain, SD to Everett and Marie (Wieske) Landon. She attended Black Hills State College and Southern State Normal College earning her teaching degree. She taught in rural country schools for several years. On January 31, 1944 she married Lenard Auch at Pierre, SD. She and Lenard owned and operated a bar in Harrold, SD until moving to Mitchell in the early 1960’s. She began working in November 1964 at the Sheltered Work Shop in Mitchell, which later became known as the Adjustment Training Center and presently LifeQuest, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Eloise was an avid reader, enjoyed playing bunco and bingo and especially enjoyed watching all the various sports her children and grandchildren were involved in.
She is survived by three sons: Gary Auch and wife, Patti of Libby, MT, Robert Auch and wife, Janice of Mitchell, Donald Auch and wife, Cindy of Mitchell; two daughters: Sharon Taylor and husband, Jerry of Chesapeake, VA, Sherri Porter and husband, Bob of Mitchell; fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lenard, great-granddaughter, Erin Edwards, six sisters and three brothers.
