Doyle Victor Olson

November 29, 1945 - April 17, 2011

Doyle V. Olson was born November 29, 1945 at Huron, SD to Victor and Edna (Schefsky) Olson.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended Artesian Public School and graduated from high school in 1963.  During high school he worked for Curtis and Dee Talley and after graduation he worked road construction for the summer. Then in the fall of 1963 began employment with Armour and Company in Huron.  He joined the National Guard and was a member of the 153rd Engineering Battalion. On May 4, 1968 he married Shirley Yvonne Spelbring at the Forestburg Lutheran Church.  While he was employed at the packing plant they purchased and moved to the John Samuelson farm north of Artesian.  There Doyle farmed during the day and worked nights in Huron for the next twenty years until he decided to farm full-time.  Doyle was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church in Artesian where he held offices of President of the Church Council, Parish Council and head usher for many years.  He was Afton township clerk for the past twenty-eight years and helped charter the Country Kids 4-H Club where he was a leader.  His hobbies included, being a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, an avid horseman, hunting, trapping, attending farm sales, auctions, riding his 4-wheeler and spending time with his family.

Grateful for sharing his life are: his wife, Shirley; daughter Kristi (Wade) Kaiser of Cavour, son, Corey Olson of Artesian, daughter, Kelly (Jason Turner) Olson of Mitchell; two grandchildren, Kadyn Yvonne and Averie Yvonne Turner, who were his pride and joy; his mother, Edna Olson of Artesian, sister, Gayle (Bill) Klein of Dell Rapids, brother, Neal (Kathy) Olson of Artesian, sister, Nancy (Bob) Arend of Garretson and many nieces nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Olson, mother and father-in-law, Burnette and Charley Spelbring and his grandparents.

Doyle never had a friend that he hadn’t met.

Just learned about Doyle's passing. My prayers are with all of you at this time of sorrow. I have enjoyed visiting with Shirley and Doyle (and all the kids) for the 27 years I have been here at the feed store. We never solved any of the world's problems but we sure tried. He always had a smile on his face even if things were bad. God Bless all of you!!! Brenda Jensen-Schmidt and family
