Walter Adolf Wegehaupt was born September 3, 1911 at Dimock to Adolf and Bertha Schnell Wegehaupt. He attended country school through the 8th grade and then spent a year in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He served 3 ½ years in the US Army during WWII. On August 13, 1944 he married Carol Blass at Frohna, MO. He began farming in 1946 and retired in 1977. They wintered in Apache Junction, AZ for twenty years and spent their summers in Minnesota and South Dakota making many memories with their grandchildren. In January 2010 he moved to Lake City. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell for numerous years and then the First Lutheran Church and Resurrection Lutheran Church in Apache Junction. He attended and taught Sunday School, sang in the church choirs and was a member of the Gideon Bible Society.
He is survived by one son, Fred (Beth) Wegehaupt, Sioux Falls; two daughters: Janice (Edward) Correia, Oklahoma City, OK; Connie (Bruce) Stam, Lake City, MN; two brothers: Erwin (Maxine), Adolph (Delores), sister, Linda Herrig all of Mitchell; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol; two infant children, James and Julie; one great-grandson, James Wegehaupt; brothers, Carl, Albert and Martin; and sisters, Hilda Helling and Klara Wegehaupt.
