Thomas Peter Crawford was born at Mitchell SD, May 1, 1931 to Thomas Virgil (Duke) and Frances (Lucas) Crawford. He was the oldest of twelve children. On August 21, 1950 he married Pearl Pavlin. In addition to running the family farm near Mitchell SD, he worked at Hormel. In 1978 he transferred with Hormel to Fremont, NE. After his retirement of thirty-three years with Hormel, he returned to Fulton SD. This became an opportunity to enjoy his winters in Mesa AZ, which he did for many years. While in Mesa he spent time with his brothers, sisters and friends. He loved doing odd jobs, playing cards with his family and square dancing, but always called South Dakota his home.
Tom loved life. He was an avid fisherman, who always knew where the fish were biting. Tom looked forward to having family and friends join him at the river. His family will always have many great memories of their fishing/camping trips with him. When he wasn’t fishing, you could often find him at a square dance where he had many good friends. He was well known for the many fish fries he hosted in both Arizona and South Dakota. Tom celebrated his 80th birthday on May 1st with a big party attended by many family members and friends. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tom was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles and the Elks.
He is survived by six sons, David (Sandy) of Watertown, SD, Dan of Deadwood, SD, Gerry (Pam) of Huron, SD and Duane, John and Jim all of Fremont, NE; two daughters, Barbetta (Alan) Turpin of London, England and Karen (Patrick) Langan of Lincoln, NE; his former wife, Pearl Crawford of Fremont NE; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and ten brothers and sisters: Jim (Dea), Marian Hoff, Sheila, Linda, Rita of Mesa, AZ, Patty (John) Holzhauser of Gettysburg, SD, Bob (Dee) of Palo Alto, CA, Dennis (Becky) of Parker, AZ, Judy (Dan) Lange of Appleton, WI, Jan Engels of El Paso, TX and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
