Angela Marie Hanten was born May 15, 1983, in Mitchell, to Paul and Brenda (Gosmire) Hanten. She grew up and attended school in Howard and graduated from Howard High School in 2002. On December 1, 2003, she married Jesse Shelafoe in Howard. They later divorced. She was employed at Walmart in Mitchell, and then moved to Sioux Falls, where she was employed at Target, Toys-R-Us, Sportsmen’s Warehouse, HSBC, and Esurance. She was currently enrolled at Killian College in Sioux Falls, where she was working toward her doctorate degree in Psychology and Chemical Dependency and was also employed in the college bookstore. She did volunteer work at the Humane Society, Homeless Shelter, was a CASA Volunteer and a volunteer writer.
She is survived by her parents, Paul and Brenda Hanten of Howard, one brother, Donald Hanten and wife Bonnie of Sioux Falls, eight aunts and uncles, Linda Mendenhall and husband Mike of Woonsocket; Sharon Cooper and husband Ken of Sturgis; Vickie Stunes and husband Dave of Burlington, WA; Donna Byrie and husband Ted of Oacoma; June Sargeant and husband Ron of Rapid City; Matt Hanten and wife, Marlys of Hartford; Darcy Justice and husband Jerry of Sioux Falls; Carla Myers and husband Dennis of Howard and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donald and Edith Hanten and Clarence and Joanne Gosmire and her maternal uncle, Randy Gosmire.
A Memorial Fund has been established at any First Premier Bank in Sioux Falls.
