Anna Marie Overweg was born April 20, 1930, at Hudson, SD, to Gerrit and Agnes (VanDerVen) VanNoort. She grew up and attended school at Fairview and Hudson, SD. On August 26, 1948, she married Dirk G. Overweg at Stickney. They lived in the Mount Vernon and Mitchell area for many years. She was a member of the Aurora Reformed Church in Aurora Center, the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church and the First Reformed Church in Mitchell. Anna will be remembered as a wonderful bread and candy maker. She was a poet and had several poems written about her family.
Anna is survived by three daughters: Jan Mulder and husband Bill of Mitchell; Deb Baker and husband Ron of Mount Vernon; Julie Newton and husband Jim of Mountain Home ID; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, six brothers and sisters: Bernard VanNoort of Sioux Falls; Marvin VanNoort and wife Rose of Sioux Falls; Gerrit VanNoort and wife Sharon of Hawarden, IA; Clara Bruinsma of Stickney; Nancy DeBoer and husband Walter of Hawarden, IA; and Agnes Wulf and husband Lawrence of Hawarden, IA; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dirk, two brothers, Jacob VanNoort and William VanNoort, one sister, Doris DeBruin, father and mother-in-law, Gerrit and Ida Overweg, two brothers-in-law, Ivan Overweg and Eldon Bruinsma and two sisters-in-law, Elsie VanNoort and Beverly VanNoort.
