Vera Mae Moe was born August 11, 1917 on the farm in Prosper Township to Halvor and Elma (Rose) Olson. On September 10, 1937 she married Melvin Moe. They resided at Ethan where Vera taught school for forty years in rural schools and Ethan Public School. In 1974 she was chosen Teacher of the Year. After Melvin’s death she moved to Mitchell and in most recent years she resided at the Good Samaritan Center in DeSmet to be near her daughter. Vera was a member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and being with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing piano and played in a band with her sister-in-law, Dorothy Olson.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Dean) Bloomstrand Fox, DeSmet; two sons: Loren (Catherine) Moe, Crest Hill, IL, Brad (JoAnne) Moe, Rock Valley, IA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one sister, Irma Graves, Rapid City and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin, one son, Larry and one brother, Delmer Olson.
